About us

We create a space for exploration, healing, and new approaches to war trauma

CALL SIGN KOBZAR is a nonprofit organization developing a modern system of care for Ukrainian military personnel and veterans affected by combat trauma. Our team is already working in military hospitals and partner healthcare institutions, combining neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation, trauma-focused psychotherapy and research.

Strength, dignity, hope, and recovery — these are the values that underpin our work.

Who We Are

A team building a system of care at the intersection of neuropsychology, psychotherapy, medicine and research

We are developing an interdisciplinary system of care step by step, while already working alongside military hospitals and healthcare partners.

Who We Are

We are a team of professionals developing clinical and research-based approaches to recovery for military personnel and veterans affected by combat trauma.

What We Do

We work in military hospitals and partner healthcare institutions, developing distinct approaches to rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury and blast-related concussion, PTSD care, and integrated support when these conditions overlap.

Why

So that military personnel and veterans can access safe, professional and consistent care, while Ukrainian specialists gain the tools needed to strengthen a modern rehabilitation system.

Mission

To develop a modern system of recovery after combat trauma

We combine practical work in military hospitals, neurocognitive rehabilitation, trauma-focused psychotherapy, professional education and research to help build an accessible system of care for military personnel and veterans.

Vision

To establish a specialized interdisciplinary center for neurocognitive rehabilitation and trauma research

We are working to establish a center that brings together clinical practice, neuropsychology, psychotherapy, neurorehabilitation, professional education, modern technologies and scientific research in the field of combat trauma.

The history of the name

“Call Sign Kobzar” — a symbol of resilience, memory and recovery

The name “Call Sign Kobzar” comes from the real call sign of a Ukrainian serviceman, assault team leader and co-founder of the NGO. For us, this image brings together memory, voice, culture and inner resilience — and symbolizes those who have lived through war while preserving their humanity, dignity and will to keep moving forward.

That is why the name reflects the essence of our work: helping people not only survive trauma, but also rebuild their connection with themselves, their bodies, memory, dignity and future.

Team

The people shaping the strategic and professional foundation of the center

At this stage, we introduce the key team members responsible for the professional concept, partnership development and organizational sustainability.

Current work

The system is already taking shape through practical work

Our team is already working in military hospitals and partner healthcare institutions. Practical experience, professional observation and partnerships are forming the foundation of the future specialized center.

Work in healthcare settings

Our team works directly in military hospitals and partner healthcare institutions.

Neuropsychological assessment

We assess cognitive functioning and identify individualized priorities for further rehabilitation.

Cognitive rehabilitation

We implement practical approaches to restoring cognitive functioning after combat-related injuries.

Center concept

We have developed the concept for a specialized interdisciplinary center for neurocognitive rehabilitation and trauma research.

Research Focus

We are defining research priorities, building an evidence base and identifying the technologies needed for neurocognitive rehabilitation.

Partnerships

We are developing collaboration with healthcare, academic, professional and international partners.

Areas of work

Four areas that form the foundation of our work

We bring together clinical work, research, education and international collaboration. Within our clinical work, we distinguish between rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury and concussion, PTSD care, and an integrated model for cases where these conditions overlap.

1

Clinical Work

Neurocognitive rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury and concussion, PTSD care, and integrated support for military personnel experiencing both psychological and neurocognitive consequences of combat trauma

2

Research

Building an evidence base, developing research projects and evaluating contemporary approaches to neurocognitive recovery and trauma care.

3

Education

Training psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychotherapists and other professionals in modern approaches to neurorehabilitation and psychological trauma.

4

International Collaboration

We build partnerships with international clinical and research experts to exchange knowledge, advance research and introduce contemporary approaches in Ukraine.

Clinical Areas

Three clinical areas addressing the consequences of combat trauma

We intentionally distinguish between the neurocognitive consequences of traumatic brain injury and concussion, psychological trauma and PTSD, and cases in which these conditions overlap. This helps us develop more precise, safer and interdisciplinary approaches to recovery.

01

Neurocognitive Recovery

Neurocognitive rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury and concussion

Restoring cognitive functioning after combat-related brain injury

Traumatic brain injuries, concussions and blast-related brain injuries can have lasting effects even after acute medical treatment has ended. Military personnel may experience difficulty concentrating, memory problems, rapid cognitive fatigue, headaches, sleep disturbances and reduced ability to manage everyday activities.

Our team is already working in military hospitals and partner healthcare institutions, implementing neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation and contemporary approaches to restoring brain function after combat-related injuries.

Key areas of work

  • neuropsychological assessment;
  • assessment of cognitive functioning;
  • individualized cognitive rehabilitation programs;
  • implementation of neurofeedback methods;
  • professional training;
  • development of evidence-informed neurocognitive rehabilitation protocols;
  • international collaboration in military rehabilitation.

Our Vision

We are working to establish a specialized interdisciplinary center that brings together clinical practice, education and scientific research in neurocognitive rehabilitation after combat-related brain injury.

02

Psychological Trauma

Support for PTSD and war-related psychological trauma

Supporting recovery after traumatic experiences

Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop after life-threatening events, injury, the loss of fellow service members and other traumatic experiences. Its symptoms can significantly affect psychological well-being, family life, professional functioning and social reintegration.

Our team develops contemporary trauma-focused and evidence-informed approaches in collaboration with military healthcare institutions and international partners. The goal is not only to support individual service members, but also to help develop an accessible system of high-quality trauma care for Ukrainian military personnel and veterans.

Areas of work

  • psychological assessment;
  • stabilization and self-regulation skills;
  • EMDR;
  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR);
  • trauma-focused psychotherapy;
  • neurofeedback as an adjunctive method of self-regulation;
  • psychoeducation;
  • training professionals in contemporary approaches to psychological trauma.

Our Vision

We aim to create a setting where military personnel and veterans can receive comprehensive support aligned with contemporary international approaches to PTSD and psychological trauma.

03

Integrated Model

Integrated support for co-occurring PTSD and traumatic brain injury

An integrated model of rehabilitation after combat trauma

One of the most complex challenges in modern military medicine is the co-occurrence of post-traumatic stress disorder and the consequences of traumatic brain injury or concussion. These conditions can exist simultaneously and influence one another throughout the recovery process.

That is why we are developing an integrated model of care that considers the service member as a whole rather than treating neurological and psychological challenges in isolation. Components of this model are already being implemented by our team in collaboration with Ukrainian military hospitals, while we continue working toward the establishment of a specialized center.

We are developing

  • integrated assessment of cognitive and psychological functioning;
  • interdisciplinary rehabilitation protocols;
  • neurocognitive recovery programs;
  • implementation of neurofeedback and other contemporary technologies;
  • training for Ukrainian specialists;
  • international research on co-occurring PTSD and traumatic brain injury.

Our Goal

To establish a modern center in Ukraine that brings together clinical practice, education, international collaboration and scientific research to strengthen an effective system of care for military personnel and veterans affected by combat trauma.

Our long-term goal

To establish a specialized center in Ukraine that brings together clinical practice, education, research and international collaboration

Our goal is to strengthen an effective system of care for military personnel and veterans affected by combat trauma and transform Ukraine’s practical experience into knowledge that can contribute to international rehabilitation practice.
